I PUBLISH A NEW BOOK   Leave a comment

NEWS RELEASE – june 26,2015

Author Maryse Noël Roumain, Ph.D., announces the publication of a new title: Retrospectives, a Collection of articles, autobiographical short stories, notes and poems based on the Haitian immigrant experience (105pp.)
Self-published by the author with the help of a book designer-friend, the book comprehends 12 chapters on diverse topics such as Communism, Democracy and Socialism as they are manifested in her native country, Haiti, throughout the history of the island. Her experience with racism in the United States is recounted in the short story The Disappearance of Mrs. Greene and Barack Obama’s book The Audacity of Hope is presented in the first chapter.
It’s a retrospective collection. By that it is meant the texts have been written in the past – in fact, between 2006 and 2014.
The book will be distributed by Amazon and is available at Haiti Cultural Exchange (haiticulturalx.org), a non-profit organization established 6 years ago by a group of Haitian American women to present and promote Haitian culture. Based in Brooklyn, in the neighborhood of Crown Heights, Haiti Cultural Exchange strives to maintain a small boutique that sells books, arts, crafts and jewelry fabricated by artists of Haitian descent.
“Rachel Perry Kieffer did an excellent editing job and Manny is a great book designer”, says Ed of Time Inc. “And, HCX is going to help with the distribution. This is an important step forward”. Ms. Roumain agrees: although she published 6 books previously, she has more to offer. “Writing keeps me busy and creative. And I feel I am doing something important by communicating with the world on Haiti’s history, culture or even my own experiences.”
The book is of affordable cost and can be purchased by calling Haiti Cultural Exchange at (347) 565-4429 or by visiting the boutique at 558 St John’s Place, Brooklyn, NY, 11238. It will also be available at all HCX events and at most book distributors and libraries. You can also visit Ms. Roumain’s page at http://www.amazon.com.
