Lettre # 4
Novembre 2004
Mon Cher Frère :
Bientôt ce seront les fêtes et nous célébrerons comme toujours en famille. La Thanksgiving sera chez moi et je preparerai les riz et pois rouges collés, des grillots et une bonne salade. Ma fille apportera une tarte à l’oignon et ma nièce de la bière, du vin, de la dinde et comme toujours, du foie gras.

J’irai passer la nuit de Noël chez ma fille et mon beau-fils et ils ne manqueront pas de nous offrir des huitres crues, du saumon fumé arrosés d’une bonne bouteille de champagne frais à la française.

Le 25 décembre on sera chez ma soeur dans le Queens où j’espère manger autre chose que du porc frit (grillots) étant donné qu’on en aura déjà mangé chez moi pour la Thanksgiving.

Il n’y a rien de nouveau sous le soleil. Mon fils fait le projet de retourner au collège en janvier prochain. Il pourra boucler son bachelor degree et ce sera suffisant comme études.

J’ai le roman de notre amie Dany Barthélemy : Tendresse Coquine, mais je n’arrive pas à lire les romans ces jours-ci. Je préfère aller voir les nouvelles sur le Net pour comprendre ce qui se passe et rester connectée avec le reste du monde. J’irai cependant à la bibliothèque voir ce qu’ils ont d’autre.

Aujourd’hui on a inauguré à Little Rock, Arkansas, la bibliothèque William Jefferson Clinton en présence de plusieurs milliers d’invités.

En Haiti, les lavalassiens refusent de s’inscrire en vue d’aller aux élections comme tout le monde.

Letter # 4

My Dear Brother:
Soon it will be the end of year festivities and as always we will celebrate with family.

The Thanksgiving party is at my home this year and I will prepare rice and red beans with “Grillots” (fried pork) and a good salad. My daughter will make an onion tart and my niece will not fail to bring beer, wine, turkey and as always, delicious “foie gras”.

I’ll spend Christmas Eve with my daughter and my step-son and as usual they will certainly serve us with raw oysters, smoked salmon drizzled with a nice bottle of chilled champagne à la française and again “foie gras”.

On December 25 we will be with my sister in Queens where I hope to eat something other than fried pork (“grillots”) given that we will have already eaten some at my home for Thanksgiving; probably baked turkey or her famous “coq au vin”.

There is nothing new under the sun. My son made a plan to return to college next January so he can complete his bachelor’s degree.

I have the novel of our friend Dany Barthélemy: Tendresse Coquine, but I can not read novels these days. I prefer to watch the news on the Net to understand what is happening and stay connected with the rest of the world. But I will go to the library to see what they have as non fiction.

Today was inaugurated in Little Rock, Arkansas, the William Jefferson Clinton Library in the presence of several thousand guests.

In Haiti, the Lavalas party refused to register to vote like everyone else. It looks like they want to protest the ejection of their leader, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, by boycotting the elections.
